Serving Customers with Care and Respect When You’re Both Stressed Out

Description:

How do you identify, address, and reduce the stressors for your customer and yourselves so that you can work together to find a way forward?

Community Actions are special and your work is incredibly important.  You make a difference in your customers’ lives every day, but it can be really hard.  More often than not, customers are coming to you on their hardest day (and maybe yours too) and you still need to get them to correctly fill out a form before you can help.  Sometimes after all the forms are finished, you find out that you can’t help in the way that you both thought you could.  It can be really frustrating and stressful for both you and your customer, but navigating that moment can be the key to finding another way to help, making the right referral, or just keeping the door open to help next time.  We’re going to talk about identifying barriers, making strategies, and building skills for navigating and reducing stress for you and your customers through care and respect so that you can keep helping people and changing lives.

I’m a former Executive Director at Lancaster-Fairfield Community Action Agency and before that I worked at Highland County Community Action Organization in several roles.  I have a deep understanding of the work that Community Action Agencies do, the wide range of customers you serve, and difference that you make.  I know how important your work is to you, your community, and the customers you serve.  In these trainings, I want to help you reflect on and learn from your experiences and make space for you to share what you learn to help each other.
