1. Attorney General Victims Compensation Program
If you or someone you know has been a victim of a crime, you are not alone.
The Attorney General’s Crime Victim Services Section serves victims of crime throughout Ohio. If you are a victim of crime and need assistance, we make every effort to assist you in the compensation process and to connect you with resources available in your community.
Victims and their families may encounter physical, emotional, and economic hardship long after a crime occurs. The Ohio Attorney General’s Crime Victim Services Section can assist eligible victims and their families with certain out-of-pocket expenses related to the crime through the Ohio Crime Victim Compensation Program. Ohio law allows for certain expenses to be covered such as: medical, counseling, work loss, funeral expenses, financial support for dependents of a deceased victim, and protection orders. The maximum total payment is limited to $50,000, and most expenses have caps. Payments cannot be made for pain and suffering or for stolen, damaged, or lost property. Ohio law does not allow the program to pay victims for expenses that can be covered by any other available sources, such as insurance. To learn more about eligibility requirements and to apply online, visit the Ohio Attorney General’s website: ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Individuals-and-Families/Victims/Apply-for-Victims-Compensation
The Crime Victim Services Section also provides Victim of Crime Act and State Victim Assistance Act grants to over 300 local programs that provide services and resources to crime victims across the state of Ohio.
