A Message from the Executive Director: June 2026

As July 1 approaches, Ohio’s Community Action Network reaches an important milestone. The transition of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and Ohio’s Energy Assistance Programs to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services marks one of the most significant changes our Network has experienced in many years.

When I began my role as Executive Director last August, this transition was consistently identified as both the greatest concern and one of the greatest opportunities facing Community Action in Ohio. Over the past several months, I have had the privilege of watching our Network respond in the way it always has by sharing expertise, offering solutions, and remaining focused on the individuals and families we serve.

I am incredibly grateful to the executive directors, program leaders, and subject matter experts from across Ohio who have generously shared their time and knowledge throughout this process. Their willingness to provide candid feedback, identify operational challenges, and recommend practical solutions has helped ensure that the voices of Community Action agencies are helping shape this transition. Their professionalism and commitment have reinforced my belief that Ohio is home to one of the strongest Community Action Networks in the country.

I also want to recognize the leadership and staff at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. From the beginning, they have demonstrated a genuine commitment to listening, asking thoughtful questions, and engaging our Network as a collaborative partner. While we know there is still important work ahead, the relationships that have been built over the past several months provide a strong foundation for addressing challenges together and continuously improving the programs our communities depend upon.

July 1 is not the finish line. It is the beginning of a new chapter. There will undoubtedly be lessons learned, adjustments made, and opportunities to improve as this transition continues. What gives me confidence is knowing that Community Action agencies, OACAA, and ODJFS are committed to approaching that work together with openness, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to serving Ohioans.

I am optimistic about the future of Community Action in Ohio, and I look forward to continuing this work alongside all of you as we build on the strong foundation that has been established. Thank you for everything you do each day to strengthen your communities and expand opportunity for the people we are privileged to serve.
