Ashtabula County Community Action Agency’s (ACCAA) recent Halloween-themed weatherization event was a treat for families who were made aware of the program that can help them overcome all the tricks the winter season has in store.
To celebrate national Weatherization Day, ACCAA held a free community Truck R’ Treat event on October 29. The event included prize drawings, games, seasonal treats, and, most importantly, information on the weatherization program and other Community Action programs.
The Weatherization Program is an energy efficiency program that seeks to make homes more energy efficient and lower energy costs. Weatherization inspectors conduct house consultations to determine the best measures to improve home energy efficiency. These measures could include installing or replacing insulations or repairing or replacing hot water tanks.
Director of Planning Carmen Kuula explained the agency strategically used the hook, “If you’re scared of what your heating bills are going to be like this winter, come find out if you qualify for our Weatherization Program,” to promote the event.
Not only was the event attended by hundreds of families, many of whom brought their children in costumes, but the event helped promote the Weatherization Program to the community. Marlo Millard, Director of Housing and Energy, reported that the Agency has been receiving calls since the event from those who attended or heard about the event from others. The program’s success has led to plans to make this an annual event to promote the Weatherization Program!
ACCAA is just one Agency currently operating a Weatherization Program. Contact your local Community Action Agency to learn more about program eligibility.
