Community Action Helps Young Father in Time of Need

Brett, a young father of two who was unemployed was referred to the Community Action Commission of Erie, Huron & Richland Counties’ Fathers Matter program which fosters increased involvement with children, provides parenting skills, and helps fathers to look within themselves to find ways of meeting their personal and financial goals. Brett was so pleased with the program, he sent a letter to Jessika Smith, his social service specialist, to thank her. Following is what Brett wrote:

Jessika, thank you for helping me have a better understanding about what I need to do. This class has helped me greatly in my time of need. The work you are doing helps people with their lives and their struggles (it has mine). You have brought my spirits up and helped me see what is important in my life, a true inspiration for fathers like me, and I thank you for that.

Sincerely,
Brett

“Brett has been through a lot and his positivity has proven to pay off,” commented Jessika Smith. He now has a job and custody of his children. “He worked very hard to gain knowledge and education about caring for his children and being a good father. He was a very active participant,” Jessika said.
