Issue One: Marsy’s Law

In June, the OACAA Board of Trustees voted to endorse Issue 1, Marsy’s Law for Ohio. Issue 1 is a citizen initiated constitutional amendment creating equal rights for victims of crime; nothing more, nothing less. Often victims feel as though they’ve been re-victimized by the criminal justice process, leaving them even more broken then they were before. Issue 1 constitutionally guarantees the rights of victims so no victim endures the pain of being denied their rights.

Issue 1 is supported by a bipartisan coalition of over 330 elected officials, faith-leaders and law enforcement. The campaign enjoys support from Attorney General Mike DeWine, Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson, Dayton Mayor Non Whaley, Auditor Dave Yost, the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association, the Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging, the Ohio Realtors Association, over twenty sheriffs, fifteen police chiefs, seventeen prosecutors and thirty county commissioners. The issue polls at 71% on the initial ballot and 86% on the informed ballot. Please join us on November 7th in voting yes on Issue 1.
