OACAA Foundation Level Seminar Series CPR Training

The Spring Foundation Level Seminar Series 2, Part 4 was held on April 24th, 2018.  There were thirty-two staff members in attendance from six community action agencies receiving certification in CPR, First Aid, and choking prevention for adults, children, and infants.

OACAA offers classes under our Foundation Level Seminar Series twice a year.  These classes are designed for community actions entry-level staff but are open to all levels of community action staff.  The classes are focused on foundation and fundamental topics that will not only help the individual staff to build their personal capacity but will also help them serve their local agency, individuals, and families.

OACAA partnered with SmartHeart CPR to provide High-quality CPR and First-Aid training, which is vital for organizations that serve the public. CPR, when performed in the first few minutes of a cardiac arrest, leads to a greatly increased survival rate for the victim.  The training consisted of classroom, and workbook time as well as the hands-on practical application of the techniques that were taught to them by the professional and knowledgeable trainers from SmartHeart CPR.

Family stress, financial stress, and ever-increasing addictions have become more problematic than ever.  CPR and First-Aid training is fast becoming the first line of defense in the fight for physical, mental, and emotional health.  It is a vital asset when possibly dealing with someone who has had an overdose or having the ability to come to the aid of a choking child.  We hold never to have to use the skills learned in these classes, but it is reassuring to know that if the need arises that there are certified staff at our local agencies ready to take command of the situation until emergency assistance can arrive.  Community Action cares about the people in the communities they serve and are willing to take the time to get their staff trained to help them however they can whether it’s help getting needed vital services or helping in a medical emergency.
