We’re excited to announce the release of the 2025 State of Poverty in Ohio report. For three decades, this publication has relied on credible data and independent research to inform the Community Action Network, policymakers, and local stakeholders about Ohioans’ most pressing challenges to self-sufficiency.
This year, the report focuses on service deserts, or geographic areas where access to critical resources is limited, across the state. We explore the presence of these deserts—including pharmacies, food, and other lurking desert areas—in both less-populated rural regions and major urban centers.
To illustrate each desert, we include fictionalized local examples inspired by common challenges Ohio families face navigating limited access to vital resources. Accompanying this report is a customizable social media toolkit for our members and partners to highlight poverty trends at both the state and local levels. Download the toolkit today!
