Why timely release of CSBG funds matters and how you can help

Across Ohio, Community Action Agencies work every day to help families meet basic needs and move toward stability. Programs that support energy assistance, housing security, early childhood development, and employment services rely on steady, predictable funding to operate effectively.

On February 3, 2026, Congress approved FY2026 appropriations, which was then signed into law by the President. This appropriations bill included funding for the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)—a vital resource for the Community Action Network. Despite approval, states are still experiencing delays in receiving funds from the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. These delays are creating real challenges for local agencies and the communities they serve.

When CSBG is delayed, programs assisting Ohio families and children are at risk of disruption. Previously released funds are expected to run out by the end of March, and without the next release, agencies face difficult decisions that could affect service availability and create uncertainty for Ohioans.

Even short-term delays have ripple effects. Staff positions may remain unfilled, program planning may be paused, and critical services may be reduced or eliminated. For families already facing economic hardship, uncertainty alone can be destabilizing.

This is why congressional engagement is so important right now! Members of Congress can help by contacting OMB and urging the immediate release of congressionally approved CSBG funds.

How You Can Take Action:

A short message can make a meaningful difference. We encourage members, partners, and supporters to reach out to Congress now:

  • Contact your U.S. Representative and Senators by phone or email
  • Ask them to contact the Office of Management and Budget and request the immediate release of FY2026 CSBG funds
  • Share real impacts from your community
  • Keep the message simple: approved funds need to be released so services can continue without disruption
